March 30, 2025 – Following the moon-sighting reports, religious authorities in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025.

South Asian Nations Confirm Moon Sighting Results

Islamic scholars and moon-sighting committees in these countries convened on the evening of Sunday, March 30, to observe the crescent moon of Shawwal. As the moon was not sighted, Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on the following day.

In India, the Jama Masjid Committee in Delhi and various regional moon-sighting boards confirmed the decision, aligning with Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which also declared Eid for March 31. Similarly, religious authorities in Bangladesh and Nepal confirmed that the crescent moon was not visible, meaning Eid will be marked on Monday.

Eid Preparations Underway

With the official announcement, Muslim communities across South Asia have begun preparations for Eid. Markets are witnessing a last-minute rush as people shop for new clothes, sweets, and gifts. Bakeries, restaurants, and Eid-special stalls are seeing high footfall as families gear up for festive gatherings.

Authorities in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Karachi, Lahore, Dhaka, and Kathmandu, have made arrangements for mass Eid prayers at mosques and Eidgahs. Security measures are also being strengthened to ensure peaceful celebrations.

Global Eid Observations

The announcement for South Asian countries comes a day after Saudi Arabia and Gulf nations declared Eid on March 30, following the earlier sighting of the Shawwal crescent. Countries such as the UK and South Africa are expected to follow a similar pattern to South Asia, confirming their Eid date based on local moon-sighting.

As millions of Muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal prepare to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on March 31, the spirit of the festival will bring communities together in gratitude and joy. Families will gather for special meals, children will receive Eid gifts (Eidi), and acts of charity will be emphasized.

Religious leaders have urged the faithful to embrace the true essence of Eid by spreading kindness and unity. Authorities have also advised citizens to follow local guidelines and celebrate responsibly.

Eid Mubarak to all!
